A very sad story has been getting a lot of air time in the news as of late, the story of a family lost in Oregon, the Kim family. It is very sad that Mr. Kim died. He is being hailed a hero by many, but I have a hard time calling him a hero. On first glance the fact that he walked 16 miles in horrendous snow to try to find help certainly shows him being heroic. But when you see about 3 or 4 different writeups of the story you start putting pieces together and wondering what exactly happened. The fact that there were 4 large warning signs on the road saying don't go this way start the mind going. There is also the fact that the road they followed turned to a dirt one, unlike the highway they should have taken. It is sad that someone busted the lock on the gate blocking the small logging road they took, but it was marked as such. Did the Kims get lost, or did they just not think? On really looking at this story I have to say Mr. Kim was not a hero at all, in fact he put his family in harms way by just being plain stupid. The final thing that seemed odd to me, if you were to get stuck on a road during a bad snow storm and decide to go for help, would you go into the woods or take the road? I would take the road back to the main highway, where people were. Yes it was 20 miles, but it was 20 miles of a semi-passable road vs. 16 miles of hard to get through wilderness. My condolences for the families loss but Mr. Kim was no hero, so forget the movie idea and find something else that is more interesting(Yes, a movie is being discussed).
