Tivo has just filed two patents that, if approved, could be quite cool for users, and quite a bit of problem with the television industry. The first patent talks about a method for transferring shows from other dvr's to your own Tivo. The idea being that if you miss a show you can request that your Tivo get that show. It would then connect to a central server to verify you could actually have recorded the show, then setup a bittorrent type connection to download the show to your Tivo(encrypted of course). The second patent talks about the ability to transfer shows off of the Tivo to any type of system you could think of, to include PDA's, IPods, laptops, etc.. I'd love to see the features and hope that Tivo can get them approved for use.
